Frequently Asked Questions

What are the helmets made of?

The material is a combination of two different resin formulas. The outer layer has good impact protection allowing it to not shatter as soon as it hits something. The inner layer has a heat rating of 250 degrees. This will prevent any warping of the helmet if left in a vehicle or in hot climates. Together this combination ensures a long lasting helmet for years to come.

How durable are the helmets?

Our helmets offer good impact protection while also maintaining good heat resistance to prevent any warping. Some of our customers have had their helmets for years with moderate to heavy usage while attending conventions and cosplaying.

Of course our helmets can break if dropped from any significant height just as all helmets would. However with proper use and care, they will last you a long time.

Can I use the helmets for Airsoft?

While we can't say that our helmets are suitable for Airsoft, some of our clients have in fact used them for this purpose. The lens we use is 3/16 smoked acrylic and is strong. Additionally the visor is screwed in to threaded posts molded in to the helmet. In addition to the visor makeup, the material that makes up each helmet holds up well to an impact.

If you do decide to use it for Airsoft, please do so at your own risk. We are not responsible for injuries that occur as a result of using the helmet in a way that it was not intended for. we would love to know how it stacks up! We recommend testing it out as target practice before using it for that purpose.

What do I use to paint the helmet?

The helmet can take most paints very well ranging from Enamel and Latex airbrush and spray paints to Urethane auto paint.

Many of our customers use regular over-the-counter spray paints. We recommend using a good quality brands such as Krylon, Rust-Oleum, Montana, or Duplicolor, Each of these have good primers and paints if you use them according to the directions identified by the manufacturer. They also offer a wide range of colors.

What are the helmet sizes?

The Variant: 8" from side to side. 10" from front to back. 25" circumference.

The Renegade: 9" from side to side. 11" from front to back. 26" circumference.

The AntiHero: 7 3/4" from side to side. 10 1/2" from front to back. 25" circumference.

The Mando: 8" from side to side. 10 1/2" from front to back. 28" circumference.

The Owl: 7 1/2" from side to side. 10 1/2" from front to back. 27" circumference.

How do I take my measurements?

To get your head measurement to see if the helmet will fit, place a ruler or tape measure against a door frame within the swing of the door. Put your ear against the door and close it until it touches your other ear. This is your ear to ear measurement. Repeat the same measurement for the front to back dimension.

How do I remove the visor area?

We recommend using a rotary tool such as a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to remove the plastic area of the helmet. But be cautious and use eye protection.

After cutting out the area, use files and sand the area to a nice smooth finish to prepare for painting.

Does the Variant helmet have an option to not have the rangefinder?

Yes. Actually there are three main pieces: the helmet body, the rangefinder, and the ear cap that sits over the articulating rangefinder. So it can be removed.

However the ear shapes are part of the helmet design. Our Variant Scout is made to have symmetrical sides. The ear spikes that come with the kit are not attached to the helmet.
